St. Peter vs. Luke Skywalker

They say every time you read the Bible, you notice something new. I finished 1 Peter tonight and realized something sad.

13-14:  Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and commend those who do right.

Apologists might contend that Peter only meant good people in authority but a few passages later, Peter disillusions us of that.

18:  Slaves, in reverent fear of God, submit yourselves to your masters, not only those who are good, but also to those who are harsh.

Not much room for civil disobedience under Peter’s teachings but he is clearly making a pro -Death Star, anti-rebellion case.

Sadly, it seems many Americans have taken this to heart, whether it points towards political or corporate leaders. Peter was preaching the They Live gospel thousands of years before Rowdy Roddy Piper even tasted bubble gum.

  1. Are you saying, No Justice and still peace? Interesting that we should leave Justice to God. He will deal with the leaders who are wicked. Great post! Ahhh my mind is churning.
