Submissions

Back in 1996, I started keeping track of where I sent my stories. With three submissions today, I finally hit 500 (in reality it’s about 520 but I haven’t been overly sensitive to record keeping.

Here’s my track record over the years:

– 2 submissions (1 reject, 1 no response)

– 38 (30 rejects, 8 no responses)

– 4 (4 no responses)

– 4 (3 rejects, 1 no response)

– 1 (1 reject)

– 3 (2 rejects, 1 no response)

– 1 (1 no response)

– 41 (34 rejects, 5 no response, 1 semi-pro accept, 1 pro accept)

– 76 (63 rejects, 6 no responses,1 pro accept, 2 semi-pro accept, 2 anthology accept, 1 non-paying anthology, 1 anthology died)

– 85 (63 rejects, 16 no response, 6 accept)

– 100 (80 rejects, 16 no response, 4 accept)

– 105 (60 rejects, 43 no response, 2 accept)

– 40 (17 rejects, 20 no responses, anthologies)

That’s a grand total of 24 stories accepted (actually more like 26, including the stuff I didn’t write down).  That’s a whopping 0.048% rate of success. I’d feel bad but that’s still better than the Cincinnati Bengals.
